QTL associated with resistance to defoliation (Cylindrocladium pteridis) in Eucalyptus spp.

چکیده
Leaf blight and defoliation caused by Cylindrocladium pteridis is one of the main leaf diseases found in Brazilian eucalypt plantations in warm and high rainfall regions. The inter and intraspecific variability in the intensity of defoliation indicate that your control can be achieved by planting resistant genotypes. In order to guide breeding programs and to predict the stability of resistance is essential to understand the genetic control of resistance in eucalypts to defoliation. Thus, the objectives of this paper were to map QTLs (Quantitative Trait Loci) associated with resistance to defoliation in a Eucalyptus urophylla x E. camaldulensis (EU11 x EC06) family and validate microsatellite markers linked to QTLs in four unrelated pedigrees involving different Eucalyptus species. Defoliation was evaluated on the branches of the lower third of the plants inoculated under controlled conditions. We identified five QTLs for resistance to defoliation (Rd), three on the map of the parental EU11, Rd-1 and Rd-2 located on linkage group (LG) 1 and Rd-4 located on LG6; and two QTLs located on the map of the parental EC06, present in LG2 (Rd-3) and LG8 (Rd-5). Markers linked to QTLRd2 were validated in two unrelated families by simple linear regression analysis. This is the first genomic map of QTLs associated with resistance to defoliation caused by C. pteridis in Eucalyptus.

Diversity and potential impact of Calonectria species in Eucalyptus plantations in Brazil.
Species in the genus Calonectria (Hypocreales) represent an important group of plant pathogenic fungi that cause serious losses to plant crops in tropical and subtropical climates. Calonectria leaf blight is currently one of the main impediments to Eucalyptus cultivation in Brazil, and various species of Calonectria have been associated with this disease. Since most previous identifications wer...

Eucalyptus dieback disease, caused by Cylindrocladium scoparium, has occurred in last few years in large Eucalyptus planting areas in China and other countries. Rapid, simple, and reliable diagnostic techniques are desired for the early detection of Eucalyptus dieback of C. scoparium prior to formulation of efficient control plan. For this purpose, three PCR-based methods of nested PCR, multipl...

Foliar fungal pathogens from the genus Mycosphaerella affect eucalyptus in natural forests and plantations worldwide. QTL analysis was conducted to dissect the genetic control of resistance in Eucalyptus globulus to a natural infection by Mycosphaerella leaf disease, using a clonally replicated outbred F2 family (112 genotypes) planted in a field trial. Two major QTL, with high LOD support (20....

We developed PCR primers to detect Cylindrocladium quinqueseptatum which infect Eucalyptus causing leaf and seedling blight resulting in heavy seedling mortality in North Indian states. Primers based on sequence analysis of internal transcribed spacer region 1 and 5.8S of ribosomal DNA produced PCR product of 245bp. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of the ribosomal DNA (rDNA) sub unit repe...

Species of Calonectria and their Cylindrocladium anamorphs are important plant pathogens worldwide. At present 52 Cylindrocladium spp. and 37 Calonectria spp. are recognised based on sexual compatibility, morphology and phylogenetic inference. The polyphasic approach of integrating Biological, Morphological and Phylogenetic Species Concepts has revolutionised the taxonomy of fungi. This review ...
